CTA Program

Overview

The citywide Tucson Ambassadors Program is a certification program administered by the Metropolitan Tucson Convention & Visitors Bureau that serves to increase tourism by inspiring front-line hospitality employees and volunteers to work together to turn every visitor encounter into a positive experience.

The premise is simple:  If front-line employees and volunteers (those who come into immediate contact with the visitor) provide quality service to visitors (convention attendees, leisure and business travelers, etc.), the visitor is more likely to have a positive experience.

Visitors who have a positive experience are more likely to return at some point in the future. And, they will share their perceptions with their friends.  Everyone benefits - visitors, hospitality workers and their employers, and the local and regional economies.

The program includes a pre-class reading document covering Tucson history and culture, desert geography, top attractions, fulfilling the tourism branding promise and helping visitors.  The ½-day class includes four modules:  the Power of Travel and Tourism; Discovering Tucson and Southern Arizona; Knowing, Finding & Using Resources; and Exceeding Customer Expectations.

Upon successful completion of the reading document, one ½-day class and the open-book exam, participants earn the "Certified Tourism Ambassador" (CTA) designation.  Tucsonboosts over 400 Certified Tourism Ambassadors who proudly wear their gold "CTA" pin.  Ongoing quarterly opportunities are offered to CTAs to enrich their education of Tucsonas a visitor destination including behind-the-scenes tours and CTA-only events and programs.
